Crowns and Bridges (Fixed Prostheses)Crowns are synthetic caps placed on the top of a tooth, typically to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal or advanced decay. Bridges are fixed prostheses used to replace one or more missing teeth. The missing teeth are replaced with crowns connected to crowns placed on natural teeth or implants on either side of the space.
Partial dentures are removable prostheses used to replace missing teeth and oral tissues when some natural teeth are present. They consist of replacement teeth on plastic bases connected by metal frameworks. Partials can also be metal-free. Complete dentures are removable prostheses used to replace all missing teeth and may or may not be implant-supported.
Implant-Supported Fixed and Removable Prostheses
Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. Implants are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. Two or more implants can be used to support and retain complete dentures.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin, shell-like restorations placed on teeth to improve aesthetics and restore function. A veneer can be placed on a single tooth that is chipped or worn. Veneers can also be placed on multiple teeth to improve the appearance of a patients smile.
